Let’s get one thing clear right now. If you have never read “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” you are missing one of the greatest stories ever told, EVER, not just here on earth, but anywhere in the Universe. In fact, all the way to the end of the universe. Mr. Adams (not me, him) even tells you this somewhere.

It is a story that grew into a trilogy and is possibly the only trilogy in the entire Universe that consists of 5 books. The idea for the book sprang forth as Douglas lay in a grassy field on the side of a mountain in Switzerland somewhere. He was hitchhiking around Europe at the time. He was drunk.

He and I had many things in common (I say had because he passed away exercising in his apt. about 20 years ago):

  • a unique wit, some even call it humorous, but then some say I’m humorous as well, though both my daughters simply call my sense of humor “weird”.
  • our last name is Adams, so there’s that… and his first name starts with a “D” while my middle name starts with a “D”.
  • at the time he was hitchhiking around Europe stoned, I was hitchhiking around the US stoned.
